Meliá varaderoAn open window unto culture
After we enjoyed listening to José María Vitier's Cuban Mass in the gorgeous lobby of the Meliá Varadero Hotel, the first one of this brand of the prestigious hotel chain Sol Meliá, it's easily understandable that this name by itself has been closely linked to culture, and this link has become a tradition, and the hotel has turned into an emblematic facility in this field.
The sustained and conscious work of several years has given rise to the idea and development of high-quality cultural programs, thus showing the best and most genuine values in culture. The most famous artists, orchestras, bands and personalities of the cultural world have performed in its areas, and this added value is attached to the hotel's excellence, background and environment.
Varadero Is Sun, Beach and … Something Else
The hotel workers, aware of the fact that Varadero is not only a lovely tourism resort of sun and beach, show to the world the cultural exclusive programs of the facility. Mr. Carlos López, General Manager, referred to this when he stated: “I cannot describe what I felt enjoying the performance of the Cuban National Ballet since I've never imagined that such events could be held in a hotel of this wonderful island.”
Mr. Carlos López, in an interview granted to Caribbean Tourism Excellence magazine, highlights the work carried out by a man he considers the soul of this cultural project Pedro González who, in addition to hold the position of Quality Director, is the major responsible of running the program extended to the community since the hotel sponsors events and emblematic institutions as Matanzas' Sauto Theater and the School of Art Instructors of the city, among others.
Regarding the information on the program for the current year, Mr. Pedro González stated that “We stick to the principle that Meliá Varadero Hotel should keep on featuring the most representative and best samples of our culture to the guests.”
In the current year 2002, Meliá Varadero Hotel will appear on the historic pages of the Cuban culture, a dream cherished for some time is to come true, the celebration of the birthday of the famed poetess Carilda Oliver Labra who will soon turn 80. The hotel will arrange a hall where the paintings of 21 prestigious painters of Matanzas province will be on display featuring personal interpretations of her work, turning this permanent room into a not-to-be missed place, and into a monument erected to the Cuban culture in the hotel.
