A HIGHER STAGE OF GOLF IN CUBA
With a PGA tournament, the first 18 hole golf course was inaugurated in Varadero, Cuba.
Varadero Golf Club, a splendid golf course has been officially inaugurated with the celebration of the first Cuba PGA European Challenge Tour Grand Final. "With this tournament to which 20 professional and 18 amateur teams participated, a higher stage of golf life in the island has begun," said Mr. Mirabel Riquenes Pérez, president of the Organizing Committee. On his behalf, Alain de Soultrait, director of the PGA European Challenge Tour, said that the Grand Final is the most prestigious event of the program and offers a great opportunity to develop this sport in this part of the world. The First Cuba PGA European Challenge Tour Grand Final was described as a very good event by PGA authorities that ratified the celebration of the second tournament in the last week of October, 2000. The tournaments was patronized by the Cuban groups Sol Meliá and Rumbos. Mr. Mirabel Riquenes advanced the news to Excellences magazine on the Caribbean tournament to be held at the Varadero Golf Club, next March. VARADERO GOLF CLUB Varadero Golf Club is an 18 hole course par 72. There the Easy Bogey and the Difficult Par are combined, turning it into one of the best course ever- designed in the whole Caribbean. Wide and protected greens with uneven grounds which demand very careful approach shots. Sand traps and interior lakes are a special part of its multiple attributes. A advantage of this course is the Casa Club housed by Xanadú Mansion. The course opens everyday. Reservations should be made by phone 24 hours in advance.
