Playa Pesquero, Cuba’s largest hotel packs a wallop in the tourist market
With a fireworks-style success in the tourist market, the Playa Pesquero Hotel –Cuba's largest lodging facility- has outdone the most conservative expectations that augured the resort was going to be off to a modest and more conventional start.
Perched on the northern shoreline of Holguin province, the hotel's opening tryout appeared to point to the usual slow burn at the onset only to grow later on, introducing the establishment in as many events as possible. But his megabuck hotel has twisted that beaten track and has made it big from the word go.
A month after its ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 21, 2003, this giant of Cuban tourism has already clicked a thousand guests per day, and in February it was beginning to reap its first benefits.
For the marketing front office of this hotel run by tourist group Gaviota S.A., the big success was possible thanks to the conveniences of the five-star, all-inclusive, environment-friendly Playa Pesquero, hubbed in the middle of an unexplored and oceanfront natural ambience that meets the needs of family packs, youngsters, couples, incentive groups and other segments.
Other factors favor success, too, such as the grand opening presided over by Cuban president Fidel Castro who cut the ceremonial ribbon and underscored the nation's willingness to develop a healthy, peaceful and safe kind of tourism.
Just a few days ago, the hotel hosted its first wedding that gathered over a hundred friends and relatives from the groom's and the bride's sides. And this is an increasingly growing trend worldwide: people tying the knot with idyllic Caribbean spots as perfect backdrops, and believe me when I say that few places compare to Playa Pesquero.
This gorgeous resort with 944 rooms distributed in bungalows, offers a varied gourmet service that includes an international smorgasbord for 640 guests in just one sitting, plus four a-la-carte restaurants that seat a grand total of 500 patrons every night, and a couple of casual eateries that combine a poolside eatery and a beachfront joint.
A boulevard makes nightlife even livelier in the pool area with an array of store galleries, Cuban spots, social clubs, ice cream parlors and beer pubs with an ambience of their own. This brand-new facility is outfitted with everything it takes for a nice stay, coupled with top-notch services tailor-made to please the most demanding guests. In a word, the Playa Pesquero is designed to have everything for everybody.
