Xitomates: A Taste for the genuine
And that same concept applies to this restaurant, modernly decorated with the works of Mexican artists and painted in colors that create a warm, intimate and relaxing atmosphere that lets you enjoy food without distraction.
The heat of the night comes to pass as beautiful people walk in the place. The restaurant, as a matter of fact, serves "top-flight Mexican food" -as owner Luis Fitch likes to call it. Xitomates has Mediterranean, Caribbean, continental and Oriental influence as well, a faithful reflection of what trips and experiences have brought to this place where patrons feel at ease with a friendly management.
After reading carefully a menu card sprinkled with such Mexican ingredients as guajillo chili, chayote, chipotle or cuitlacoche, I opt for a Xitomate soup accompanied by lamb cheese crouton. The second dish has a more distinctive Caribbean flavor: fish, potato scales and coconut milk. Variety is huge, indeed, and it is meant for lovers of traditional meats, fresh seafood, shellfish and vegetables.
Between dishes, I feast eyes on the lights. Candles are essential elements, so are the small lights and the dimmed glows coming from tin lamps spruced up with autochthonous symbols. The combination makes the place look calm and very nice.
Dessert time finally comes and everything sounds so delicious and special. There are jericayas, jell crepes... yet I choose the specialty of the house: Toluca, that is, vanilla fudge ice cream mixed with coffee and accompanied by crackers and jell. Quite an impeccable finishing touch.
Make no mistakes about it; Xitomates is the right place to have a delicious Mexican meal in a special Mexican and cosmopolitan ambience.
