JORGE CÉSAR SÁENZ (Trinidad, 12 de febrero de 1972).

He studied at the Oscar Fernández Morera Elementary Arts School in Trinidad and went on to study at the Escuela Nacional de Arte (National School of Art,) graduating in 1990 with a specialization in engraving.
He has ventured into painting, sculpture and engraving, and is a maker and restorer of religious images. Within this theme, his work chooses a facet that appropriates and resizes conceptually the religious sculptures in wood, so typical of the syncretism between our Hispanic and African cultures. He also excels in the representation of the surrealist landscape, always structured from the multiple symbioses between the natural and human elements. The other recurrent bent in his poetics is related to playful activities and the universe of objects and attitudes associated with this peculiarly human function.
Encompassing, and at the same time very personal, Jorge Cesar Saenz’s work draws on traditional or contemporary resources of plastic arts to offer us a renewing and at the same time timeless vision of ourselves.
