Four decades and a year mark the “Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano” (International Festival of New Latin American Cinema,) always dedicated to making visible, promoting and legitimizing the best of regional cinematography and from other parts of the world, based in an artistically gifted city like Havana, which opens every December turned into a giant movie theater.

This new edition is driven by the transforming spirit of the past edition. The 40th Festival opened up a period of work in which reinventing, rebuilding and updating creatively constitute the indispensable dynamics to mobilize the event as a living entity, amid complex social, political, cultural and cinematographic realities.

In this 2019 other challenges emerge. To honor Santiago Álvarez in his centenary is one of them. For the first time, the short film and poster contest has an independent jury, specifically dedicated to valuing its works, a fair decision that gives the event a greater degree of specialization.
