For this edition of Jojazz, more than one hundred young jazz musicians compete at the usual venues of the “Bertolt Brecht” Cultural Complex, the Mella Theater gardens, the Avellaneda hall of the Teatro Nacional and the Miramar café. Two categories are announced for the competition: composition and performance. In the latter the novelty was the extension of the age range for the participants: now between 16 and 21 years old for junior soloists and 22 to 35 for the senior soloists, in small and large formats.
The jazz scene of the Island enjoys excellent health and national and international prestige. A large part of the instrumentalists play contemporary trends such as Cuban jazz, afro new jazz, among others. They are part of first-line bands. And that is a merit of the competition that cannot be denied, because most of those singers and instrumentalists are Jojazz Awards, that is, the future.
