Saying December in Havana means the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema. All Cuba knows and prepares. The 40th edition is generating many expectations, and the audience trusts.
It all began on December 3, 1979 with the first edition, which was attended by more than six hundred Latin American filmmakers, convened by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). It had Gabriel García Márquez and Santiago Álvarez as presidents of the juries. It was not just an encounter, but a cultural movement that included the Foundation of the New Latin American Cinema in 1985 and the International School of San Antonio de los Baños in 1986.
Four decades later, we are still committed to the seventh art on this side of the continent, to tell the realities, failures and hopes of our America.
