The important thing
Bells toll in Puerto Vallarta. The Pope is dead and I go through another one-and-only, exciting, in this case sad, but indescribable moment. Each bell toll resounds with each anxious, unfettered heartbeat, reminding us of the clear-cut fact that we're alive. This is one of those moments that turn you inside out, that put you face to face with death and make you see the legit dimension of life, how small our existence and daily life things really are.
But we also see the big ones. And so I've unearthed things in Mexico through these months, I've felt that the biggest thing of all, what really makes sense in this world, is being good to people, getting the love and affection of those who love you. Even though this might sound like a book's dedication, is indeed what I wish to do: dedicate a few lines in this magazine to those who love me everyday in this village that's a little my hometown, too, to those who make it possible for me to write and take this publication to many places, to those who give the happiness and intensity to write about each and every stone, development and human being.
To their light and tenderness, to their support when the going gets tough. I don't need to mention names because every person who smiles at me, who spares a few minutes of chat, who buys me a cup of coffee when I'm down and out, who hugs me... they know who they are and I have them all in the bottom of my heart.
The rest is unimportant, and so is to be sentimental. My friends in Puerto Vallarta have made me remember the sense of this thing called life; they fill up my spirit and that's why I'd like to stay with these people and their streets, among them, working to be somebody who can give them a tad of their own intensity in return.
... And this time around we pay homage to Jalisco as the cradle of some of Mexico's most beloved symbols, and to Puerto Vallarta as a magical travel destination where everybody fits in when it comes to discovering and enjoying it.
Thanks once again.
