Juan José Vega del Valle was nominated Deputy Minister of Tourism, and one year later he was faced with a transcendental challenge in his life: undertaking the Presidency of Cubanacan Co., the biggest turistic holding in Cuba.

E.: “What does your appointment as President of CUBANACAN mean to you?” “This appointment entails, above all, a great opportunity for me to evaluate my working capacities. It was simply a challenge, and, of course, there was a lot of surprise in it too. It’s one of those things that makes you change your idea of the future, that forces you to totally reorganize your life.” E.: “It’s been two and a half years since you took over this responsibility. Do you think you have been successful or lucky?” “For me, success and luck necessarily have to go hand in hand; but success goes a bit beyond luck, because it is the result of continuous studies, full dedication, and total devotion. E.: “Can we state that CUBANACAN is a holding of excellence?” “Without a doubt. We see excellence from two points of view. There is excellence in a company when it is able to meet its goals. This is an evidence of its maturity and capability. The results CUBANACAN can show now speak for themselves. Excellence is not an ever lasting condition. The standards to measure excellence in tourism are ever more demanding. “I would very specially like to underline the importance we attach to the human factor in the achievement of excellence. We employ about 23,000 highly qualified workers.

Excellences of Cubanacan

Cubanacam was created in 1987. Today it has 17 companies, 10.000 rooms in 54 hotels. We can mencionate just three examples of its hotels: Meliá Cohiba, the most shining five stars of La Havana; Chateau Miramar, specialy design for business man; and Club Varadero, an “all include” in firstline of the beach. In healthy tourism: Camilo Cienfuegos Clinic and La Pradero. In Restaurant: there are three with a high prestige: Tocororo, La Ferminia and El Aljibe.
