Sayulita, Surf, sun & smile

It’s located on the Pacific coast of Mexico’s Nayarit, a 35-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta and some 21 miles from the airport. You may take the bus from the gateway of the Wall Mart or get a cab for a fare of approximately 300 to 700 pesos, depending on the embarking point.

We suggest you to agree on a fare before hopping on the taxi. Sayulita’s weather is subtropical, with months of abundant rainfall between June and September. However, the afternoons are rainier while the mornings are sunnier for beach time and strolls. The rest of the year the days are sunny and breezy.

Sayulita is small, with a size allows for a walk around its downtown area, the square, its stores and the small cafés, getting down to the beach almost without noticing, just letting the sea breeze and the surfers with their boards show us the way to the shore. If this is your first time ever, a good option is to have breakfast in one of the spots near the plaza. The cybernetic world is well wired up in its awning-shaded cafés in the most natural fashion, just like an argument of a hassle-free coexistence every step of the way.

After filling up on energizing food, we can then start shopping around in stores that sell craftworks, jewelry, clothes, footwear… everything original and handmade. This will paint us a brighter picture of the concrete essence of its inhabitants. On Sunday, the streets are jam-packed with a little marketplace of zillions of items, and it’s so much fun to snoop around.

If you’re looking for a more hands-on choice, then a ride on a bike or on horseback, or a long hike through natural paths will do the trick. And of course, we can’t pass up water sports like fishing, snorkeling and windsurfing, the romantic token of this little town of the Mexican Pacific.
