Occidental Miramar’s new perspectives

The Occidental Miramar Hotel, hubbed in the world-class Fifth Avenue of the Cuban capital, stands tall in the city for providing a specially intimate ambiance and blending modern and classical architectural styles.

Since June 1, 2003 and in a joint effort with Gaviota, Spain-based group Occidental Hotels –with over twenty years of experience under its belt and now getting its big break in Cuba- has been running this lodging facility whose top conveniences are commented by its new general manager, David Ocete: “This is no doubt a great hotel that's only three years old and is located in one of Havana's finest neighborhoods. It features ample rooms and superb comfort, let alone having a good deal of restaurants serving the finest food money can buy.”

Occidental Hotels, the leading all-inclusive company in the Caribbean, is bent on honing its employees' manners and skills because they are the ones –the front office explains- that deal directly with guests and are responsible of providing a top-notch service every step of the way.

Referring to the establishment's next moves, Mr. Ocete says: “As we speak, we're in the middle of an off-peak tourist season and we're also closing reservations for the upcoming wintertime season. That gives us a little bit of a break as far as operations are concerned and leads us into the more marketing-like aspect of the business.

“We also want to home in on the kind of service we provide and lean more to the business traveler segment. You must bear in mind this is a 427-room hotel we're talking about, so we're bound to dedicate part of our time to deal with tour operators and travel agents. As part of the current strategy, we're going to turn the hotel's fifth floor into a Royal Club, quite a benchmark in our hotels, chiefly in our huge urban compounds. This is going to be a floor with a service of its own, very classy for a superior four-star category.”

Finally, the new general manager said to be very pleased for being in Cuba at the helm of the superior four-star Occidental Miramar Hotel and went on to say: “I've got a big challenge in my hands right now. But I have a great facility before my eyes, a Gaviota-owned property and that company has helped me a lot. Besides, it's so easy to put words across with Cubans. Thus, taking the reins of this hotel will definitely be a much easier task for me. ”Fifth Avenue on the corner of 72nd St., Miramar.Havana.
